20 Ways To Begin Your Family History

01- Think about your ancestors
02- Love them and care about them (Elder Packer said to "start here")
03- Talk to your parents/grandparents about their memories of older family members
04- Write down the things you learn
05- Record interviews with older family members (oral histories)
06- Celebrate important dates in the lives of your ancestors (baptisms, etc.)
07- Make a family calendar of these important dates
08- Have a birthday party honoring an ancestor
09- Find boxes of old records, pictures, etc., and look through them
10- Safely file important documents, letters, certificates, pictures, etc.
11- Collect stories of ancestors and living family members from extended family
12- Organize or attend family reunions, take pictures and collect information
13- Tell stories of your ancestors to your children
14- Take photos of old homesteads of ancestors
15- Learn how to preserve heirlooms and old documents
16- Make plans now for how to pass on family heirlooms and documents
